As mentioned before, the entire time you're playing Tribes you'll be flying and jumping and skiing at ludicrous speeds, all while shooting down your enemies. It's a damn good looking game, especially for one that is free. The maps are large and lush, and Tribes: Ascend doesn't skimp on the beautiful landscapes either. Using the Unreal Engine 3 – Tribes: Ascend feels good to play, and experienced FPSers will automatically realize how well-designed the entire game is across the board. You'll have access to only three classes at first, but you can purchase new ones with real world money or unlock them with earned experience. Engineers, scouts, stealth-based and tank-like classes all will become pivotal in constructing your winning strategy, especially in modes like Capture the Flag. ![]() This is all great, because though you can pay real money to upgrade and get new weapons, a really good player can use all the original equipment and classes and still do better than someone who has beefed up their character via their credit card.Ĭlasses are an important part of Tribes. At the end of the day, Tribes: Ascend is one of those games that takes a while to master, but it's worth it in the end. The pace is fast, and there are a ton of options and strategies. Not only will you have to master this unique game mechanic, but Tribes: Ascend is the type of game that is far more challenging than most of today's shooters. These game mechanics take a while to get used to, but once you've got them down, Tribes: Ascend becomes entirely entertaining. However, what makes Tribes: Ascend so good (aside from the fact that it's free) is that it uses a mechanics of skiing and jetpacking, in which you'll be flying down hills at high speeds and leaping into the air while shooting your foes. ![]() There are the various typical modes of gameplay such as Capture the Flag, small skirmishes (five-on-five), and the whopping 32-player deathmatch. ![]() Tribes: Ascend is a free-to-play Team Fortress-styled FPS. Tribes: Ascend does everything to bring those types of players looking for something new into its arms, and it does so with flying colors. For a select number of players who aren't wrapped up in the modern first-person shooter era of games, Tribes has been a go-to series. There is a world of FPS games that aren't run-of-the-mill.
